Good Afternoon everyone. Welcome to today’s webchat with Joanna Taylor. |
| |
We'll start with a great one from Adam who wants to know: |
Ok so phones are great for flirting but how do you get the number in the first place. Generally you still have to ask for the number. If you are shy how can you still overcome this first introduction barrier? |
Joanna Taylor said: |
I accept that is a problem if you are in a bar or nightclub but you need to think of a reason to get the number, or get a friend to get the number etc. But once you've got it, it's good because then you can text someone and there's not that embarrassing or awkward silence and it gives the other person a chance to let you down gently. |
|
Fergie wants to know: |
Have you got some text flirting do's and don’ts? |
Joanna said: |
Do be light-hearted and funny. Don't send it to your mother by accident. Make sure the person understands your text language so that they don't misconstrue it. Don't leave your phone where your friends can get at it and send texts! |
|
Jon wants to know: |
Do you text a lot and have you sent any sexy texts to the wrong people? |
Joanna said: |
An ex-boyfriend - I didn't really get on with a member of his family and I did send a text slagging that member of the family off to a friend but accidentally sent it to him. |
|
Nikki wants to know: |
Do you ever find it difficult to understand all those abbreviations and text slang? |
Joanna said: |
I'm rubbish - I don't understand most of them! I am quick at texting though, so I don't need the abbreviations. |
|
Cath wants to know: |
Have you ever "text flirted" with someone? |
Joanna said: |
Yes, I still text flirt with my husband. You can be less inhibited - things that would make you cringe in person you can say in text. I think texting is even more beneficial for men than women as they are shyer about showing their emotions. |
|
Gerry wants to know: |
What should you do about text messages from people you really don't want to talk to? |
Joanna said: |
Press delete! Or say you're out of the country. |
|
Richie wants to know: |
Have you ever split up with someone with a text message? |
Joanna said: |
I haven't. I wouldn't dump a long-term partner by text, but if they're just someone you've been on a couple of dates with, I think it's okay to dump them by text. I was surprised that Vodafone's research showed that women are more likely to dump someone by text than men. |
|
Ben wants to know: |
Do you prefer cheeky humour or straightforward flirting? |
Joanna said: |
Cheeky humour. Straightforward flirting can be a bit too full on and it might make someone seem a bit over eager. |
|
Mdha wants to know: |
Have you ever sent any rude pictures by text? |
Joanna said: |
Yes - but only to my husband. No - I won't tell you what it was of! |
|
Ros wants to know: |
Would you want your flirt to text you a sexy picture of himself? |
Joanna said: |
Yes, so long as it was done with humour. |
|
Paula wants to know: |
Would you like to receive sexy texts from your date when you sneak away from him - even if it’s only for 5 minutes? |
Joanna said: |
I'd have to be really into someone to find that a turn-on. Otherwise, again it’s the over eager thing! |
|
Alex wants to know: |
How did you recover from sending the text to the wrong person? |
Joanna said: |
I was with him at the time and when I heard his phone beep I read the text and deleted it before he could see it, and told him it was a wrong number. Luckily he was quite trusting. |
|
Ash wants to know: |
If you could pick someone to text flirt with other than your husband who would that be? |
Joanna said: |
Johnny Depp. My husband is allowed Jessica Alba! I think it's fine to find other people attractive - it's only human. |
|
Grant wants to know: |
Any tips to say that would guarantee a good response? |
Joanna said: |
You're always going to get a good response if the text is asking someone to go to the Maldives with you! |
|
Vikki wants to know: |
How about receiving a text from him first thing in the morning - would that be a good start to your day? |
Joanna said: |
As long as it doesn't wake you up and you didn't send one last thing at night as well; that would be too much. |
|
Vikki wants to know: |
After a date would you want to receive a text from him to find out if you got home ok and to say he had a good time? |
Joanna said: |
I think that's nice as it shows a caring side. But I wouldn't text a guy that, as I think that's too much. Strictly for men to do only! You should always respond - to save him worrying. |
|
Nikki wants to know: |
What are the most bizarre abbreviations you've ever seen? |
Joanna said: |
To be honest, my friends and I don't really use abbreviations as I think we're too old. I find that it’s more young people that use abbreviations. I guess if you're trying to keep your texts short or not send so many texts then you might want to use abbreviations. |

Boy Frog |
Are you a romantic? |
Joanna said: |
Yes I am. |
|
Robin wants to know: |
Where are you from? |
Joanna said: |
I'm from Surrey but I lived in Cheshire for a few years. I moved back down this year. |
|
Dan wants to know: |
Do you think Danny (Joanna’s other half) is going to get his call up this weekend from Sven? |
Joanna said: |
I think he deserves to and Sven is going to watch him on Saturday. I think he'd have to play pretty badly to not get picked now, but you never know. |
|
Jen wants to know: |
Having just arrived at uni, I'm a bit worried about the best way to keep in touch with my mates who have also gone to other universities around the country, I love chatting to my mates on the phone but I'm worried about the cost, have you got any advice about the best way to stay in touch with friends and family? |
Joanna said: |
My sister is off to Cambridge tomorrow and she has just got a new Vodafone tariff giving her unlimited texts and picture messages so she's got no excuse not to get all the gossip from back home. |
|
Mdha wants to know: |
Do you have any more film or TV roles lined up for the future? |
Joanna said: |
I've just finished a film that is a family comedy with Martin Kemp and Denis Waterman. It will be out next year and is called Back in Business. |
|
Jane wants to know: |
Have you ever been ditched via text? |
Joanna said: |
Ditched? What's that? |
|
Alex wants to know: |
Would you rather chuck someone in person or via text? |
Joanna said: |
I'd much rather do it by text but would feel bad afterwards. |
|
Gerry wants to know: |
So finally Joanna, can I have your number please so that we can keep texting! |
Joanna said: |
Nice try, unfortunately my husband might object. But I bet you wouldn't have asked me face to face so you see, you can say a lot of things by text that you wouldn't say in person. |
|
Emily wants to know: |
How do you keep him interested - some suggestions on text flirting that will keep him guessing? |
Joanna said: |
Try keeping your answers short and don't respond straightaway so it looks like you're really busy and popular. |
|
Jonny wants to know: |
Who were your childhood idols? |
Joanna said: |
Jason Donovan and Philip Schofield and basically anyone who played Joseph in the West End, except Darren Day! |
|
Moderator said: |
We have a couple of questions about a similar theme asking if you ever worry about authorities listening in reading your text messages |
Joanna said: |
I've heard of paranoid people who are worried about that but it's actually impossible apparently. I'm more worried about someone reading them off my phone so I'm careful to delete anything incriminating. |
|
Robyn wants to know: |
What's the worst thing he can text that won’t help in the flirting game? |
Joanna said |
Texting too often seems over keen, you always need to appear cool. |
|
Dave wants to know: |
Have you ever sent a rude picture to anyone else by mistake? |
Joanna said: |
God no! I'd be very careful before sending a picture. It's not something I do that often anyway! |
|
Sarah wants to know: |
Who was your favourite person on the (Hollyoaks) show? |
Joanna said: |
I'm still very good friends with Lisa Kay who played Anna and I also got on very well with Sarah Dunn and Marcus Patrick. |
|
Jane wants to know |
What was the best moment on Hollyoaks? |
Joanna said: |
I was very flattered when I won Sexiest Female at the Maxim awards, and all the cast used to live together which could be a lot of fun. |
|
A Moderator said: |
As Moderator I'm taking the liberty of asking a question: What's on your iPod at the moment? |
Joanna said: |
I'm going to see U2 in New York next month so I'm listening to them a lot at the moment. |
|
A Moderator said: |
We've had so many questions asking for top tips for starting to flirt with your mobile, so to finish, can you give us a quick summary of the best things to do? |
Joanna said: |
Keep it light-hearted, don't text in the middle of the night, don't be obsessive. If it's a private text then double-check whom you're sending it to. Try and be funny. Think about what you'd like to receive. |
